Photos from Alsace at Easter

Living in England, I’m well accustomed to people decorating their houses for Christmas, some even spice up their homes for Halloween each year. One thing, however, I have never experienced before are streets and houses decorated for Easter. Now let me introduce you to Alsace, France. My mum and I were not only charmed by the fairytale villages, but also by the way they were decorated. As you drive through the region around Easter time you will see rabbit cardboard cut outs popping up from roundabouts, eggs hanging from the houses and numerous Easter decorations pouring out of shops. I’ve never been anywhere like it.

People even decorated their garages for Easter in Riquewihr.
Colmar was full of atmospheric and well-decorated Easter markets.
A decorated window in Strasbourg.
A festive shop in Riquewihr.
The decorations on this fountain made Eguisheim look even more fairytale-like.
A decorated window in Ribeauville.
There were even trees lined with Easter decorations in Eguisheim.
The streets of Colmar filled with Easter decoration.
A wooden rabbit in my favourite place, Equisheim.
The caffes and restaurants joined in on the Easter decorations.
The wineries also got into the Easter spirit.
Be sure to look in the least obvious places for Easter bunnys and eggs hiding.
I wish we decorated our buildings like this in England! This was in Ribeauville.
A whole Easter garden created by the Easter markets in Colmar.
My favourite flower, wisteria, hanging over an Easter balcony.

  1. Hello, I’m frech, I know Strasbourg, the magic of eastern but if you visit this town in December, you could see much more décorations everywhere in and out the stores and homes and really saw the magic of Christmas much more than everywhere in France I think so … prepare your next visit -:)

  2. That is such a beautiful way how to make spring festivities even nicer! I had not heard of this either, my country also has some decorations for Christmas, but not that much by people themselves, mostly the city does it! Here it seems it’s all done by people!

  3. Wow, looks like they’re really taking Easter seriously there 😀 The village looks really pretty, although I personally would probably prefer it without all the bunnies and decorations, haha. Safe travels!

  4. This is so cute! They really went all out! Easter is very common here in the States, but it’s been a while since I’ve seen anyone decorate for it quite like THIS!

  5. The houses are such beautiful colours, aren’t they? Thanks for sharing. We live in Switzerland but near to the Alsace and often pop over the border for a tarte flambée and a glass of Riesling! I have a poetry blog here on WordPress and today’s poem is about our Saturday in Riquewihr in case you have time to look? Sam 🙂
